After reading about the community of primarily men who purchase life-like sex dolls as companions, Chicago-based multimedia artist Amber Hawk Swanson decided to order a ‘RealDoll’ in her own likeness. What began a piece of performance art gradually turned into a much more personal endeavor, when Amber found herself dealing with emotions she didn’t anticipate.
