FOOT FETISH: SEXUALITY OF THE SOLE - episode 3-10
Prior to producing parts of this story, I'd never been confronted with the concept of 'the erotic foot', and certainly not the 'male erotic foot'. But there I was, somewhere on a Soho back street in New York City looking for the unmarked, very private 'Foot Friends' gay club. We were going to shoot one of their foot-worship parties where more than 100 gay (and 'kinda gay, but not really gay') men gather to worship at the almighty sole. It was unique enough for me (a straight married guy) to even be in a gay bar, let alone one where the method of flirtation is not to look at you square in the eyes, or stare at your butt, but glance directly just above the floor….to your feet. Normally I'm self-conscious about my stomach, hairline or my less than square-jawed profile, but on this night I was focused on the two stubby things attached to the end of my legs. Were they too small, too thin, low-arched or badly manicured? I'd never thought about it before now. I was struck at how non-threatening the atmosphere was and how friendly the men were. If hetero-singles bars were only as inviting, perhaps I wouldn't have all of the emotional scars that I do (did I say that out loud?) No, I don't understand the foot-worship thing, the same way I'm sure foot-people don't' understand the 'breast-worship' thing that tends to dominate my more private thoughts….but that's kind of the point. If nothing else, it's respect for people's choices…..whether they involve toes, arches or any other strangely seductive body part. Brad Brough
