BIG BIG LOVE - Episode 3-16

The National Institute of health of the U.S., estimates that 97 million Americans are fat. As writer Hanne Blank writes, "Having a sex drive is part of being alive, and being fat doesn't change that. Where you have 97 million human beings, you have 97 million sets of genetalia, 97 million libidos, 97 million sexual fantasies (at least)…" But the sad fact is that the vast majority of people who identify or identified as fat, are sexually marginalized.

Like people with disabilities, and other groups who don't fit the "Cosmo" norm of beauty, fat people are treated as asexual, undateable, pitiable creatures. If you grow up fat in this culture you grow up thinking that sex is not an option. The best you can hope for is some good friends.

Thankfully there is a growing movement of fat people who are taking their fight for sexual rights public. Before Hanne Blank wrote Big Big Love there was no sourcebook for fat people to learn about and explore their sexualities. She wrote the book largely to dispel myths people have about fat sexuality and to outline the options fat people have within a fat-hating culture.
